How to Start with PeerEnabler™

PeerEnabler™ is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file distribution platform designed to help users download files efficiently while enabling publishers to distribute content securely at scale. Getting started is slightly different depending on whether you are an end user or a publisher, but the overall setup is straightforward.

For All Users

End users can access files distributed through the PeerEnabler network on supported operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and FreeBSD.

To begin using PeerEnabler:

  • Install the PeerEnabler P2P Networking plugin on your computer
  • Once installed, your system can automatically participate in the peer-to-peer distribution network
  • Content providers make files available through the PeerEnabler network, and your client retrieves them seamlessly

After installation, downloads become more efficient because files can be sourced not only from central servers but also from other connected peers in the network.

For Publishers

Publishers have additional setup steps because files must be verified and securely distributed across the network.

To publish files using PeerEnabler:

  • Obtain a license file from Joltid (required for publishing)
  • Use the PeerEnabler signing utility (a command-line tool) to sign each file before publishing
  • The signing process generates a signature file that ensures file authenticity and integrity
  • Upload both the original file and its signature file to your web server

This process ensures that only verified files are distributed through the PeerEnabler network.

Step-by-Step Overview

The PeerEnabler distribution workflow is designed to be simple and efficient:

  1. End users install the PeerEnabler P2P Networking component
  2. Publishers sign files using the signing utility
  3. Signed files are uploaded to a web server
  4. End users begin downloading files
  5. Peers automatically become additional download sources
  6. The web server acts as a fallback if no peers are available
  7. File authenticity is guaranteed through digital signatures

Key Benefits of the System

  • Faster downloads as more users join the network
  • Reduced load on publisher web servers
  • Secure and verified file distribution
  • Automatic scaling during high demand
  • Reliable fallback to central hosting when needed

Additional Information

For licensing, pricing, and publishing access, publishers typically need to contact the provider directly. More advanced integration details are available in the developer documentation section, which covers APIs and deeper system integration.

Getting Started

To begin using PeerEnabler™ as an end user, you simply need to install the P2P Networking component. Once installed, the system operates in the background and automatically enhances file downloads across supported applications and websites.
