Installation
There are multiple ways to install P2P Networking.
End users can manually download and install it from the website. However, in most cases, installation is triggered by an application or a website that requires P2P functionality.
When using a P2P-enabled application, users are prompted with a confirmation window to install P2P Networking. Once approved, the installation process is completed automatically.
If a P2P-enabled file is accessed on a website, a pop-up window will request installation of the component.
Users can also download P2P Networking directly from the official Joltid website, which provides test applications and products that demonstrate P2P functionality.
Introduction
The P2P Networking component is a system plug-in that enables secure peer-to-peer communication between computers over the Internet.
It allows data to be transferred directly between systems, similar to email or web browsing, but optimized for faster and more efficient delivery.
Key benefits include:
- Faster downloads for large or popular files
- Higher reliability compared to standard web downloads
- Secure and efficient data transfer
- Access to applications integrated with P2P functionality
Once installed, P2P Networking starts automatically by default and runs whenever the computer starts.
It can be temporarily disabled from the system tray by right-clicking the icon and selecting Shut down, but it will restart automatically when required by an application.
The component can be hidden from the system tray if needed and can also be restarted manually via the Control Panel under installed components.
Options Tab
The Options tab allows users to configure basic settings. Recommended defaults are enabled by design.
Available settings include:
- Show icon in taskbar
Displays or hides the system tray icon (enabled by default). - Launch on startup
Automatically starts P2P Networking when the computer boots (enabled by default). - Notify before installing new updates
Prompts the user before updates are installed (enabled by default). - Enable history
Allows viewing download history and client usage details (enabled by default).
Actions:
- Apply: Saves changes without closing the window
- OK: Saves changes and closes the window
- Cancel: Closes without saving changes
About Tab
The About tab provides:
- Component version details
- Information about Joltid
- License terms (via License button)
- Option to check for updates manually
Users can save or discard changes using OK or Cancel.
Activity Tab
The Activity tab can be opened by double-clicking the system tray icon or via the Control Panel.
It displays real-time information such as:
- Number of active downloads
- Applications currently using P2P Networking
- Download and upload speeds
A Details button provides additional information about ongoing downloads.
Advanced Settings
The Advanced settings section includes technical options that are usually not required for standard users:
- Automatically manage P2P cache
Enabled by default. Allows the system to automatically manage cache location and size. Manual configuration is available if disabled. - Automatically manage upload bandwidth
Enabled by default. Allows automatic control of upload speed, with optional manual configuration. - Automatically optimize bandwidth when idle
Enabled by default. Uses available bandwidth more efficiently when the system is idle.
A Restore Defaults option is available to revert all settings to recommended values.
